Stage 3 is hiring a Field Leader - Solids Control to provide critical on-site leadership and ensure the safety, efficiency, and high performance of our field operations. You will report directly to the Area Manager, overseeing a team and driving operational excellence in remote Canadian locations.
What You'll Do
- Lead and develop Solids Control field teams through hands-on supervision, training, and performance management.
- Oversee daily field operations day and night, ensuring safety, productivity, and equipment reliability.
- Maintain accountability for all solids control activities in the 'backyard' of assigned job sites, ensuring full operational readiness.
- Oversee a crew operating and maintaining equipment including shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying equipment, and pumps.
- Oversee services such as air drilling, barite recovery, de-watering, fluid transfers, and cuttings drying/invert recovery.
- Oversee and perform routine maintenance and electrical services on various equipment.
- Oversee and mentor technicians on standard operating procedures for moving cuttings from pits to trailers using heavy machinery.
- Perform site audits and audit daily PJRA/JSA, inspection reports, observation reports, and checklists.
- Oversee PPE/FR protocols for staff and lead by example on all safety protocols.
- Send weekly updates to Area Managers summarizing staff activity and concerns.
- Pick up and deliver necessary equipment to job sites and make grocery runs for technicians as required.
- Maintain a clean and orderly job site and employee housing.
- Work in the shop on crossover days or as otherwise directed.
What We're Looking For
- Ability to work 14 days on/7 days off or 20 days on/11 days off rotations in Canada.
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts including overtime.
- Experience overseeing a team of up to 10 technicians on rotational day, night, and possibly swing shifts.
- Ability to travel domestically to remote work locations throughout the United States in a company vehicle.
- Ability to perform standard rig up and rig out procedures while coaching and mentoring technicians.
- Expert level understanding of environmental processes and Environmental Services (construction, utilities).
- Basic knowledge of electrical principles (currents, volts, circuits, power) to troubleshoot electrical issues.
- Comprehensive understanding of drilling fluid properties (weight, funnel viscosity, retort analysis) and ability to perform fluid analysis.
- Complete mentor certification program to handle personality issues appropriately.
- Demonstrated leadership skills by coaching, mentoring, and training field technicians.
- Ability to build professional, constructive, and effective relationships with everyone on the job site, including customers.
- Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, use logic, motivate, encourage, and empower others.
- Professional, patient, calm, customer service oriented, tactful, and diplomatic demeanor.
- Mechanically inclined with comprehension for electronics.
- Ability to input routine data into various systems including company Portal.
- Ability to problem solve, multi-task, troubleshoot, and use time efficiently.
- Ability to operate and oversee heavy machinery including excavator, forklift, skid steer, or wheel loader.
- Possession of valid safety certifications for H2S, CPR/First Aid, confined space, or required customer-specific certifications.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (cold, wet, hot).
- Ability to be away from home for 14 days or longer to complete scheduled rotation.
- Ability to share living accommodations with peers and coexist professionally.
- Commitment to keep living quarters clean and orderly.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
- Ability to pass a performance evaluation and have a minimum of 36 months of verifiable Solids Control experience.
- Prior Forklift, Excavator, Skid Steer, or Wheel Loader experience or certifications.
- Microsoft Office proficiency including Outlook.
- Valid driver’s license, valid insurance, and acceptable driving record for company insurance carrier.
- Ability to maintain company vehicle professionally and follow Company Vehicle Policy rules.
Nice to Have
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2-year Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Technology, Electronics, Mechanics, or similar field.
