About the Role

Ford is seeking an Engineering Specialist - Controls to coordinate resources, find root cause for issues, and manage the breakdown of problems into actionable, validatable items. You will determine proper validation methods and drive improvements for quality and delivery within our manufacturing operations.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate resources to find root cause and implement fixes, managing problems into items that can be validated.
  • Handle setup and maintenance of industrial bar code printers.
  • Design and implement vision control systems, familiar with different vision cameras and programming software. Continuously evaluate equipment for improvement.
  • Use FIS plant monitoring software to review equipment cycle times and follow up on project installations.
  • Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements.
  • Update program backups for machinery and automation.
  • Program new installations of automation, machinery, material handling, and robots.
  • Review risk assessments and evaluate equipment safety as part of a team.
  • Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant electricians.
  • Read and modify electrical prints and schematics using AutoCAD.
  • Maintain familiarity with OA, CPN/MPN networks and communication protocols for wired and wireless networks.
  • Manage virus protection software for controls network PCs, perform PC backup disc images, and install communication, firmware, and controls software.
  • Work overtime and weekends as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 4 or more years of Controls Engineering experience (internship and coop experience considered).

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, or Automation Engineering.
  • Automotive experience is highly preferred.
  • Electrical background (electrician or technician).
  • Familiarity with PLC/CNC (Allen-Bradley), VFD, Servo, Profinet, FANUC Robots.
  • Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, modify electrical schematics, and use AutoCAD.
  • Validated ability to troubleshoot equipment and continuously evaluate for process improvements.
  • Experience with conveyor system programming.
  • Solid understanding of networking including DH+, Ethernet, and remote IO.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience.
  • Lean Tools experience – 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, Value Stream Mapping.
  • Understanding of 8D, FMEA, and DMAIC processes.
  • Familiarity with TQM and Kaizen methods.
  • One or more years of experience with MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook).
  • Knowledge of simulation modeling and visual factory management.
