Kaufland e-commerce is seeking an Engineering Manager (all genders) for our Explore & Discover area. This entry-level management role is designed for someone ready to build, develop, and enable a high-performing team, starting with hands-on technical tasks to understand our infrastructure before fully embracing managerial responsibilities. You will lead engineers in a product team within our dynamic, you-build-it-you-run-it environment.
What You'll Do
- Lead the engineers of one product team with the perspective to expand to multiple teams as your responsibility grows.
- Remain hands-on to a reasonable extent for technical guidance, architectural decisions, code reviews, or complex problem-solving.
- Help engineers grow personally and professionally by advancing their skills and inspiring them through purpose.
- Ensure leverage of (new) technology within product teams to build products customers love.
- Be accountable for delivery and reliability of teams' products, balancing scope, quality, performance, and operational stability in a high-traffic B2C environment.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives larger than your team(s), like raising the engineering bar, improving guidelines, and defining how we work as an organization.
What We're Looking For
- Experience working in cross-functional product teams.
- Vast experience in engineering scalable web applications.
- Experience as an Engineering Manager approaching technical challenges pragmatically.
- Outstanding sense of ownership, passion, and drive.
- Clear and effective communication skills, ability to create alignment, especially in a remote/distributed setup.
- Some experience in a management role and building successful teams.
- Ability to mentor other engineers and help them grow.
- Willingness to go the extra mile for team success, ability to give honest feedback, and to discuss, commit, and execute.
- Fluent in English (C1 level).
- Enjoy working in an international environment.

This is a hybrid position based in Germany. You can work from our offices in Cologne, Darmstadt, Düsseldorf, a co-working space in Berlin, or remotely within the country.
