About the Role

Kaufland e-commerce is hiring an Engineering Manager (all genders) - Backend Infrastructure to lead one of our platform teams. You will be responsible for our technical foundation, including Identity & Access Management (IAM), mailing services, and backend architecture. This role begins with hands-on technical tasks to understand our systems before evolving into full managerial and people leadership responsibilities.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a highly skilled team that defines the technical foundation of the company.
  • Shape the backend architecture: provide guidelines and best practices, maintain and evolve the shop monolith, and develop tooling and boilerplate code.
  • Maintain and improve an existing mailing service handling email templating and delivery.
  • Support teams by providing a project-based IAM solution that product teams can deploy independently.
  • Actively contribute to development efforts using backend technologies like Golang and PHP.
  • Remove roadblocks, help others, create transparency and alignment within the team.
  • Advance team members' skills and careers and inspire them through purpose.
  • Continuously raise the engineering bar with a focus on software excellence.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of the IAM and Mailing product, balancing time, budget, and quality.
  • Develop, monitor, and own relevant KPIs for the team (cost, SLAs, SLIs, etc.).
  • Contribute to guidelines, policies, and standards to improve how we work.

What We're Looking For

  • Background in a product team, focusing on the right technical solutions and owning products end-to-end.
  • Several years of hands-on engineering experience in Golang.
  • Knowledge of PHP.
  • Experience with utilizing cloud and infrastructure resources and familiarity with tools like Kubernetes.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with product teams.
  • Fluent in English (C1).
  • Results-oriented approach with a dedicated focus on delivering top-notch solutions.

Nice to Have

  • Initial leadership experience through mentoring, coaching, or in a managerial position is beneficial but not required.
  • Passion for people management and wanting to grow into an Engineering Manager role.
