About the Role
The engagement reporter will work to connect investigative journalism with the communities most affected by the stories. This role emphasizes outreach, audience collaboration, and ensuring reporting reflects public concerns.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategies to involve communities in the reporting process
- Identify and build relationships with sources from underrepresented groups
- Collaborate with reporters and editors to shape story angles based on public input
- Organize and lead public events, forums, or listening sessions
- Use social media and digital tools to gather audience feedback
- Translate complex investigative findings into accessible formats
- Track and analyze engagement metrics to assess impact
- Work with newsroom teams to ensure inclusive coverage
- Report on community responses to published stories
- Support efforts to reach audiences across different platforms
- Develop trust with communities historically skeptical of media
- Identify local partners for outreach and distribution
- Create content that invites public participation
- Contribute to audience growth through targeted engagement
- Help design surveys and other feedback mechanisms
- Ensure diverse perspectives are included in coverage
- Participate in newsroom planning discussions
- Maintain records of community interactions
- Respond to audience inquiries related to investigations
- Support transparency by explaining journalistic methods to the public
