The Employment Specialist plays a key role in empowering refugee clients to achieve economic independence by providing tailored employment services. This includes conducting initial assessments, identifying employment goals, and designing individualized plans that align with each client’s skills and aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform client intakes and assessments to determine employment eligibility and develop customized action plans.
- Lead job readiness sessions in group and one-on-one formats, covering essential topics such as resume development, interview techniques, and workplace expectations.
- Build and sustain relationships with local employers to identify job openings and match qualified candidates.
- Support clients through every stage of the hiring process—from application submission to interview preparation and job offer negotiation.
- Track employment outcomes, including wages and job retention, and deliver follow-up support to ensure long-term success.
- Assist eligible individuals with Unemployment Insurance claims and related documentation.
- Maintain accurate records in internal systems, prepare required program documentation, and ensure compliance with reporting standards.
- Attend team meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions, while adhering to organizational policies on confidentiality, safeguarding, and ethical conduct.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in social work, workforce development, or a related field—though relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. At least two years of experience in case management, job placement, or employment services within a social services context is required.
A valid driver’s license, active insurance, and reliable transportation are necessary. Candidates must also meet Arizona fingerprint clearance requirements. Experience working with displaced or underserved populations is highly valued.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) is essential. Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are critical. Bilingual abilities in languages spoken by refugee communities—such as Spanish, Dari, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, or French—are an asset.
Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid model, combining office-based work, remote flexibility, and field visits within the service area. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required. The role may involve lifting items such as furniture, food boxes, or household supplies weighing between 35 and 50 pounds.
