Penguin Random House is hiring an Editor to join the Dial Delights program within The Dial Press. Dial Delights is a trade paperback original publishing program specializing in romance and romantic comedy. In this role, you will be responsible for acquiring, developing, and publishing compelling books within this vibrant genre.

What You'll Do

  • Identify trends in romance and romantic comedy and recruit authors.
  • Edit romance manuscripts, with a focus on historical, dark romance, romantic suspense, and diverse romance sub-genres.
  • Evaluate book proposals and build commercial, cultural, and financial cases for acquisition, including creating profit and loss statements.
  • Negotiate and manage relationships with literary agents.
  • Develop and finalize manuscripts through developmental and line editing.
  • Write sales- and consumer-facing copy, title information sheets, reading guides, and value-add materials.
  • Stay current on potential acquisitions of self-published authors with breakout potential.
  • Engage and partner with authors to fully realize their vision.
  • Position works for target readerships and collaborate with cover, publicity, and marketing teams on publishing plans.
  • Work with production and managing editorial departments on copyediting, schedule, and design.
  • Handle daily correspondence, office work, phones, and attend required meetings.
  • Represent the publisher with authors and represent the author/agent with internal teams.

What We're Looking For

  • A minimum of 5 years of editorial experience.
  • A keen interest in romance and other categories poised for success in the trade paperback original format.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and superb organizational skills.
  • Outstanding ability to prioritize in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to accommodate shifting schedules and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A collaborative spirit with great people skills; a team player.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Work Mode

This is a hybrid role. The position is based in our New York, NY office at 1745 Broadway and is open to candidates in the tri-state area (NJ, CT, NY).
