The DMV Revenue Accountant I plays a critical role in maintaining the financial accuracy of the Department of Revenue by analyzing and validating payment activity from the DRIVES system. This position ensures all revenue transactions are correctly recorded and distributed across state, county, and local jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine general ledger entries in DRIVES to verify proper posting of DMV-related revenue to state accounts
- Prepare and record journal entries to correct discrepancies and reflect accurate financial activity
- Calculate and allocate revenue distributions for Cities, Counties, and Special Districts
- Input financial data into the CORE system for reporting to high-level state offices including the State Controller and State Treasurer
- Investigate and resolve variances in monthly reconciliations between DRIVES and CORE systems
- Review bank statements and accounting reports to identify control weaknesses or processing errors
- Collaborate with DOR leadership and interagency teams to define accounting procedures and compliance requirements
- Apply GAAP, GASB, and State Fiscal Rules when determining proper revenue recognition and reporting methods
Qualifications
Applicants must have four years of professional accounting experience or a combination of relevant education (27 semester hours in accounting or auditing) and experience totaling four years. Current CPA licensure by the Colorado Board of Accountancy meets the education requirement. Candidates must be Colorado residents at the time of application.
Preferred Experience
- Direct experience with DRIVES and CORE financial systems
- Proven skill in conducting complex monthly reconciliations and identifying root causes of discrepancies
- Familiarity with fiscal year-end closing processes, including accruals and refund payable entries
- Ability to analyze high-volume transaction data to distinguish system errors from human error
- Experience evaluating internal controls and ensuring compliance with established policies
- Track record of working with cross-agency teams to define accounting standards and implement legislative changes
- Strong interpersonal skills for resolving unreconciled items with county offices and third-party entities
