What You'll Do
Shape the strategic direction of life underwriting by developing and executing a forward-looking vision that balances growth, risk management, and efficiency. Lead enterprise-level oversight of underwriting decisions, ensuring strong governance across both automated and manual processes. Establish consistent policies and risk frameworks that support regulatory compliance, financial soundness, and alignment with pricing models.
Direct the integration of underwriting rules into the Sapiens UW Pro platform to maximize Straight Through Processing rates and maintain appropriate risk thresholds. Guide performance measurement for both underwriting outcomes and system-driven efficiency, using data to inform continuous improvement. Lead digital transformation initiatives by optimizing business rules engines and decisioning tools in collaboration with IT and analytics teams.
Supervise key underwriting personnel, including the Business Systems Analyst, and build a culture of accountability, innovation, and professional growth. Mentor managers and individual contributors, supporting career development and leadership readiness. Partner with actuarial, product, legal, and executive teams to influence risk strategy, product design, and long-term planning.
Stay ahead of regulatory changes and technological advancements in underwriting, evaluating new tools and methods to improve accuracy, speed, and customer experience. Represent underwriting in strategic discussions, vendor engagements, and cross-functional initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, actuarial science, or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in life insurance underwriting, with at least 5 years in leadership or executive roles
- Proven track record of aligning underwriting strategy with technology platforms and automation efforts
- Strong command of life underwriting principles, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory standards
- Experience with business rules engines or decisioning systems
- Advanced strategic, analytical, and executive communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree or professional designation such as FALU, FLMI, or CLU
- Direct experience with Sapiens UW Pro and Straight Through Processing (STP) environments
