Bob's Discount Furniture is hiring a Director of Field Operations to lead and optimize our outbound transportation operations, ensuring compliance, safety, and cost-efficiency across the supply chain. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to drive performance and support our network's growth.
What You'll Do
- Oversee outbound freight execution to ensure timely, cost-effective deliveries to store and depot locations.
- Lead and inspire a distributed logistics team across multiple locations.
- Coach and develop CDL drivers, driver managers, and fleet personnel.
- Set clear expectations, manage performance through KPIs, and empower teams.
- Deliver logistics projects on time, within scope, and under budget.
- Apply data-driven decision-making and identify inefficiencies to implement corrective actions.
- Manage transportation budgets and drive cost-per-mile improvements.
- Ensure service level adherence and timely deliveries.
- Lead process improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
- Align transportation strategies with corporate goals.
- Manage vendor/asset management and vehicle maintenance oversight.
What We're Looking For
- 10–15+ years of progressive experience in transportation or logistics management within a retail, wholesale, or multi-location environment.
- Valid driver’s license and familiarity with DOT regulations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Contract negotiation experience (asset, 3PL, lease agreements).
- P&L experience.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, kneel, reach, twist, push, pull, climb, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs independently.
- Ability to move objects up to 100 lbs with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to navigate warehouse and yard environments.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods as needed.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field.
- Experience with SAP (WMS) strongly preferred.
- Understanding of U.S. Customs/import processes.
- Experience with 3PL providers, intermodal carriers, freight forwarders, and drayage operations.
- Knowledge of fuel hedge management, asset utilization strategies, and backhaul optimization.
- Familiarity with multi-regional yard and fleet management programs.
- Openness to innovation and continuous learning in logistics technology and supply chain trends.
