Common Energy is hiring a Director of Community Engagement - Maryland to lead our initiatives within the low-income housing sector, specifically in the Potomac Edison territory. You will identify and enroll low-to-moderate income customers, owning the entire sales cycle to bring the benefits of community solar to Maryland residents.
What You'll Do
- Identify subscribers through local community engagement via events, media relations, and workshops for multiple Maryland projects.
- Generate leads and cultivate new business opportunities within the low-income housing sector, targeting housing authorities, property managers, and affordable housing organizations.
- Build and leverage strong partnerships with leadership at housing authorities, low-income housing operators, and nonprofit affordable housing groups.
- Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting to closing, ensuring seamless enrollment.
- Represent Common Energy at affordable housing and sustainability conferences, networking events, and industry forums.
- Schedule and conduct client meetings and presentations to educate partners on community solar benefits and guide them through enrollment.
- Collaborate with internal teams to optimize sales strategies, report on progress and market trends, and support customer enrollment. Meet or exceed annual enrollment targets.
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with affordable and low-income housing, specifically within the Greater Chicago Region.
- Must be based in Maryland (preferably the Potomac Edison region) and willing to travel across the state.
- 3+ years of community engagement experience.
- Capability to engage local leaders and organize/participate in local promotional events.
- A persuasive influencer ready to educate Maryland residents about community solar and prepare them for enrollment.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven track record in sales, business development, or partnership success within the low-income housing sector.
- Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships.
- Deep connections with leadership at housing authorities, affordable housing organizations, and low-income housing operators.
- Strong interest in business strategy, energy efficiency, sustainability, and social impact.
- Experience attending and leveraging industry conferences to generate business.
- Highly motivated, independent, and able to drive initiatives with minimal supervision.
Team & Environment
You will report to the VP of Growth and work closely with other members of our front-end sales team.

- Attractive compensation ranging from $80,000 to $120,000 annually.
