About the Role
The Director of Advocacy and Legislation will spearhead efforts to advance policy initiatives, engage with stakeholders, and advocate for legislative changes that align with the organization's mission.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies to advance policy goals.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including legislators, government officials, and community leaders.
- Monitor and analyze legislative developments and policy trends.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure alignment on advocacy priorities.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to inform and persuade stakeholders.
- Write and edit policy briefs, reports, and other advocacy materials.
- Organize and participate in advocacy events, hearings, and meetings.
- Collaborate with external partners to amplify advocacy efforts.
- Provide expert testimony and input on legislative proposals.
- Manage advocacy projects and initiatives from conception to completion.
- Track and report on the progress of advocacy efforts and their impact.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in advocacy and legislative processes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences and events.
- Develop and manage advocacy budgets and resources.
- Conduct research and analysis to support advocacy efforts.
- Engage with media outlets to promote advocacy messages.
- Provide training and support to staff on advocacy and legislative issues.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of advocacy strategies and make necessary adjustments.
- Advocate for policies that benefit the organization's mission and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other advocacy organizations to achieve shared goals.
- Maintain a strong network of contacts in the advocacy and legislative communities.
- Develop and implement grassroots advocacy campaigns.
- Monitor and respond to public opinion and feedback on advocacy issues.
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in public policy, political science, or a related field.
- Experience working in government or a non-profit organization.
- Familiarity with the New York legislative landscape.
- Experience in lobbying and government relations.
- Knowledge of current policy issues and trends.
