The University of Chicago is hiring a Dining Support Services Manager to serve as the key liaison between IT teams and dining business operations. You will support the development and implementation of new dining systems and enhance existing ones, using your knowledge of University processes to recommend appropriate solutions.
What You'll Do
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of dining operations to improve efficiency and user experience.
- Manage mystery diner programs, including sign-ups, orientation, and reporting.
- Perform daily transaction balancing within POS systems to resolve discrepancies.
- Visit all dining locations weekly to assess operations and monitor compliance standards.
- Oversee daily meal plan and campus card transaction usage, including data entry and balancing.
- Input and update meal plan purchases in relevant databases/systems.
- Generate ad hoc and scheduled reports on dining transactions.
- Serve as an event management system (EMS) user for dining-related event coordination.
- Provide operational support for dining initiatives like special meal packs and donation coordination.
- Provide first-line 24/7/365 support for campus POS systems and peripheral devices.
- Diagnose and correct minor technical or network issues, coordinating with central IT when needed.
- Update POS databases with new menu items following dining operations requests.
- Manage access credentials for vendor staff.
- Triage technology requests from dining staff, escalating complex issues appropriately.
- Work closely with University staff and third-party vendors to ensure consistent service.
- Conduct facility walkthroughs and assist with audits, sharing findings with management.
- Monitor compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Support new initiative implementation by assisting with staff training and communication.
- Document operational issues and solutions for continuous improvement.
- Assist vendors and staff with basic technology requests related to campus cards and POS.
- Provide responsive customer service on meal plans, balances, and tech support.
- Maintain email lists for dining system updates.
- Utilize vendor contracts to monitor compliance and resource adequacy.
- Stay informed of new food service technology concepts and trends in higher education.
- Follow policies to ensure data integrity and security, complying with standards like PCI-DSS.
- Stay informed of security updates and communicate with dining systems staff.
- Offer limited operational oversight in coordination with supervisors and vendors.
- Provide occasional off-hours or weekend support for urgent issues or major events.
- Assist with new duties arising from changing departmental needs.
- Conduct business process analyses, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit reviews.
- Implement functional and system specifications and assist in revising existing system logic.
What We're Looking For
- A college or university degree in a related field.
- Knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Nice to Have
- Demonstrated experience with dining/transaction-based systems or similar technical support roles.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to diagnose basic technical issues.
- Familiarity with common office software for reporting and communication.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on customer service.
