Quadient is hiring a Development Engineer

Quadient is looking for a Development Engineer to take on the design, build, testing, and validation of new products and retrofit kits. In this hands-on role, you will support field installations and sales, create detailed technical documentation, and maintain comprehensive product knowledge while following our departmental processes.

What You'll Do

• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant departmental and company processes.
• Design, build, and test test rigs for potential new products.
• Build, test, and develop new products.
• Design, build, test, and develop retrofit kits and/or design changes for existing products.
• Assist with field installation problems via Technical Support.
• Assist potential sales via sales groups.
• Create test plans for development testing.
• Create Technical Bulletins.
• Assist production in the creation of build procedures for new products.
• Liaise and communicate with other departments as necessary.
• Visit UK and Overseas customer sites as required.
• Inform and appraise the Line Manager or responsible design engineer as appropriate.
• Maintain an overall knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, and electronic (software/firmware) design of current development product(s).
• Deputise for the Line Manager in the event of his absence.
• Follow the department dress code.
• Ensure Health and Safety At Work requirements are met at all times.

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design and development, ideally within a product development or R&D environment.
• Proven experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD).
• Experience in prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Experience working in cross-functional teams (e.g., Design, Electronics, Software, Compliance).
• Familiarity with project lifecycle management tools and documentation standards.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to compliance and regulatory testing (e.g., UL, CE, RoHS) is a strong advantage.

Team & Environment

You will report directly to a Line Manager and work closely with cross-functional teams across Design, Electronics, Software, and Compliance.

Work Mode

This role is based onsite at our Loughton office.
