Quadient is looking for a Development Engineer to take on the design, build, testing, and validation of new products and retrofit kits. In this hands-on role, you will support field installations and sales, create detailed technical documentation, and maintain comprehensive product knowledge while following our departmental processes.
What You'll Do
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant departmental and company processes.
- Design, build, and test test rigs for potential new products.
- Build, test, and develop new products.
- Design, build, test, and develop retrofit kits and/or design changes for existing products.
- Assist with field installation problems via Technical Support.
- Assist potential sales via sales groups.
- Create test plans for development testing.
- Create Technical Bulletins.
- Assist production in the creation of build procedures for new products.
- Liaise and communicate with other departments as necessary.
- Visit UK and Overseas customer sites as required.
- Inform and appraise the Line Manager or responsible design engineer as appropriate.
- Maintain an overall knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, and electronic (software/firmware) design of current development product(s).
- Deputise for the Line Manager in the event of his absence.
- Follow the department dress code.
- Ensure Health and Safety At Work requirements are met at all times.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design and development, ideally within a product development or R&D environment.
- Proven experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD).
- Experience in prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
- Experience working in cross-functional teams (e.g., Design, Electronics, Software, Compliance).
- Familiarity with project lifecycle management tools and documentation standards.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to compliance and regulatory testing (e.g., UL, CE, RoHS) is a strong advantage.

You will report directly to a Line Manager and work closely with cross-functional teams across Design, Electronics, Software, and Compliance.
