About the Role

International SOS Government Medical Services is hiring a Dentist to deliver essential oral healthcare services for detainees in ICE custody. This role is central to ensuring high standards of clinical care and effective clinic management within a prescribed policy and accreditation framework.

What You'll Do

  • Provide primary oral healthcare, including examination, diagnosis, and treatment, adhering to IHSC policy and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain strict sharps and instruments control through daily logging and counts.
  • Observe all radiation safety protocols and sterilization procedures in line with CDC guidelines and IHSC policy, including spore testing.
  • Prescribe and dispense required medications and refer patients to specialists through the managed care program when appropriate.
  • Assist with the technical oversight of dental auxiliary staff and provide input to the Local Dental Unit Chief and supervisory authority.
  • Serve as a resource on dental health issues and provide annual training to local medical staff.
  • Collect and submit accurate dental data to the Regional Dental Consultant in a timely manner.
  • Attend required monthly dental teleconferences, organizational, and local meetings.
  • Travel periodically to provide dental care at other sites as needed.
  • Perform duties in support of the local medical unit and IHSC Dental Program, such as equipment maintenance and supply acquisition.
  • Adhere to and maintain awareness of all IHSC policies, procedures, directives, and accreditation standards.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all communications to foster an inclusive environment.
  • Complete all required organizational compliance education, including client-specified requirements for Joint Commission certification.

What We're Looking For

  • A current, full, active, and unrestricted dental license in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Graduation from an accredited DDS or DMD program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-licensure clinical experience in dentistry.
  • Strong oral and written communication, excellent interpersonal skills, and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, integrity, and honesty.
  • Expertise in all broad functions of dentistry: diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and emergency care.
  • Knowledge of dental science, including oral anatomy, restorative dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, and strong oral surgery skills and experience.
  • Ability to adhere to safety, infection control, quality assurance, and clinical documentation requirements.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic and treatment equipment and responding to medical emergencies.
  • Ability to complete and pass all competency testing and required training.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, multilingual environment and adapt to sudden schedule changes.
  • Proficient English communication (verbal and written).
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to navigate an electronic work environment, including electronic health records and web-based systems.
  • Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA/Privacy Act regulations and applicable accreditation standards.
  • Physical capability to walk unaided, jog/fast walk up to ¼ mile, lift/push/carry 30 pounds, and perform CPR or assist patients.
  • Must perform duties in a stressful environment without physical limitations.
  • Must maintain current residency in the continental U.S., be a U.S. citizen resident for the last five years, pass a background investigation, and obtain required security clearances.
  • Must pass a medical examination conducted by a licensed physician.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a detention, correctional, or residential healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.

Team & Environment

You will assist with the day-to-day technical oversight of dental auxiliary staff and report to the Local Dental Unit Chief, HSA, or designated supervisory authority, working within a structured, multidisciplinary healthcare team.
