WaterAid Canada is hiring a Database and Research Officer to join our fundraising team. This technical role reports to the Annual Fund Manager and is pivotal for maintaining our database, ensuring data accuracy, and supporting business development through evidence-based recommendations and prospect research. You will be part of a small Canadian team working within a larger global federation dedicated to our vision: a world where everyone, everywhere has clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.
What You'll Do
- Act as the subject-matter expert for WaterAid Canada’s fundraising database, ensuring data integrity, analysis, and effective use.
- Ensure donor and gift data integrity, including data entry, gift processing, proper coding, and data cleansing.
- Establish, document, and update data management standard operating procedures.
- Own and coordinate software development and upgrades, working with third-party vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Design, run, and interpret queries and reports, providing high-accuracy analysis to support fundraising performance and decision-making.
- Conduct regular research within the donor database to identify prospects for the annual, major, foundation, and corporate portfolios.
- Provide oversight and quality control for donation processing to ensure accuracy, compliance, and donor trust.
- Respond to and process donations received by phone.
- Manage the annual consolidated tax receipt process for monthly donors.
- Liaise with donors and prospects to ensure inquiries and concerns are addressed quickly and accurately.
- Work alongside the Finance department to reconcile donations and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with the annual financial audit.
What We're Looking For
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in fundraising or database management.
- Minimum of five years of experience working with Database/CRM systems.
- Minimum of five years of related experience in a fundraising/not-for-profit organization.
- Experience with online fundraising platforms such as CanadaHelps, Benevity, JustGiving, and PayPal Giving Fund.
- Excellent proficiency in the MS365 Suite, specifically Excel (including Pivot Tables), Teams, and SharePoint.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively to a wide array of audiences.
- Demonstrated agile, resourceful, and initiative-driven approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
- Proven experience with data imports, exports, and integrations between multiple systems.
- Intermediate or advanced experience using donor databases, data import tools, and validation tools.
- Experience with data cleaning, validation, and quality assurance processes.
- Experience developing and delivering effective training to stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly within a small, remote team in Canada.

Team & Environment

- Compensation: $70,000 CDN per year.
