Thomson Reuters is looking for a Database Engineer to provide critical support for Oracle and PostgreSQL databases within our global team. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability and performance of revenue-generating applications by troubleshooting incidents, performing administration, and collaborating closely with technical partners.
What You'll Do
- Provide in-depth critical support for Oracle and PostgreSQL databases, including Cloud environments like AWS EC2 and Aurora RDS.
- Act as primary support for complex production databases and drive incident resolution.
- Perform database administration on Unix/Linux environments and ensure continuous 24x7 operation.
- Execute project-related tasks such as DDL generation, cloning, data refreshes, and performance tuning.
- Manage database backup, recovery, and Disaster Recovery planning using tools like RMAN and storage technologies such as NAS.
- Collaborate with application partners to address performance issues and contribute to long-term solution design.
- Develop and maintain OS-level scripts (e.g., UNIX shell) and operational documentation.
- Own database problems, coordinate with vendors, and provide problem management for repeat issues.
- Participate in new system builds, including creating databases, deploying monitoring, and managing permissions.
- Mentor and coach other database engineers while developing team leadership skills.
- Provide support outside normal hours for major implementations or critical issues.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, technical, or engineering field.
- 3 years in IT with at least 2 years of DBA responsibilities in Oracle/PostgreSQL environments.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills with a customer service focus.
- Understanding of storage technologies such as NAS and SAN.
- Extensive backup/recovery experience and Disaster Recovery planning.
- Ability to problem-solve effectively in high-pressure situations and learn new technologies quickly.
- Experience in scripting languages like shell, Python, and Perl.
- Excellent teamwork and independent work capabilities.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with cloud environments and experience in Cloud Migrations.
- Experience with Oracle Installation, Configuration, and Upgrades.
- Knowledge of Oracle replication technologies like Dataguard, Streams, and Golden Gate.
- Performance monitoring and tuning skills.
- Strong operational familiarity with RAC on Oracle 11g/12c and above.
