Role Overview
As the Data Center Operations Manager, you will lead continuous operations across a critical Columbus facility, ensuring systems run safely, efficiently, and in full compliance. You are responsible for managing technical teams, maintaining infrastructure performance, and upholding strict operational protocols across power, cooling, and connectivity systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct all aspects of 24x7 operations, including shift scheduling, performance management, and team development.
- Establish accountability and consistency across shifts through structured handovers, documentation practices, and one-on-one engagement.
- Oversee electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems, ensuring reliable performance of generators, UPS, switchgear, chillers, and cooling infrastructure.
- Collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to plan and execute maintenance with minimal service disruption.
- Enforce adherence to MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs, and maintain accurate records of system diagrams, capacity, and cabinet layouts.
- Support capacity planning by tracking real-time power, cooling, and space utilization across the facility.
- Coordinate customer installations, moves, adds, and decommissions, ensuring accurate provisioning and documentation.
- Manage Meet-Me Room operations, cross-connect workflows, and labeling integrity in a carrier-dense environment.
- Lead incident response efforts, ensuring timely escalation, communication, and resolution during outages or emergencies.
- Supervise contractor and vendor activities, verifying compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Champion safety in alignment with OSHA and NFPA 70E guidelines, promoting a culture of risk awareness and disciplined execution.
- Participate in audits, operational reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives using performance data and trend analysis.
Qualifications
Applicants should bring at least five years of experience in data center, colocation, or mission-critical operations, with two or more years leading technical teams in a 24x7 setting. Proven expertise in managing complex infrastructure—including power distribution, backup systems, and cooling—is essential. Experience in multi-tenant environments and familiarity with TIA/BICSI standards, change management, and incident response are required. Strong communication skills and the ability to interpret technical diagrams are critical.
Preferred Experience
- Operations in colocation or interconnection-focused data centers
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E, TIA-942, or BICSI standards
- Participation in capacity planning and performance metric tracking
