About the Role

General Motors is looking for a Dangerous Goods Lead to oversee compliance for approximately 15 manufacturing sites across Canada and Mexico. You will be responsible for ensuring adherence to all relevant local, state, federal, and international regulations across multiple modes of transport, while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and oversee the dangerous goods transportation compliance program for ~15 manufacturing sites with elevated compliance risk.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory frameworks such as NOM, TDG, IATA, and IMDG across multiple transportation modes.
  • Conduct site assessments, evaluations, and gap analyses to identify risks and develop action plans.
  • Collaborate closely with plant and regional leadership to drive program ownership and accountability.
  • Support the development and implementation of standardized procedures, training, and documentation.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on transportation classifications, packaging, labeling, shipping papers, emergency response, and security plans.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis related to dangerous goods non-compliance.
  • Monitor and interpret changing regulations to maintain proactive compliance readiness.
  • Support internal audits, third-party assessments, and regulatory inspections.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing industry best practices.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of post-graduate experience in hazardous materials/dangerous goods transportation compliance, logistics, supply chain, environmental, or a related field.
  • Deep knowledge of relevant regulations: Mexican NOMs, Canadian TDG, IATA Air regulations, IMDG Vessel Regulations, or EPA requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and engage plant leadership and cross-functional teams to drive compliance and culture change.
  • Strong communication and training skills; ability to translate technical requirements into practical actions.
  • Experience with risk assessments, corrective action plans, root cause analysis, and regulatory interactions.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Transportation/Logistics, Safety, or a related field.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Advanced degree or certifications such as CDGP, DGSA, or CHMM.
  • Proficiency in DG management systems and tools.
  • Track record of building scalable, sustainable compliance programs.

You will work directly with site leadership teams across approximately 15 manufacturing sites in Canada and Mexico.

This is a hybrid position based in Canada or Mexico.
