The YMCA of Southwest Florida is hiring a Dance Instructor to deliver engaging and safe dance classes for children. Reporting to the Program Director, you will plan, organize, and document lessons while creating a positive environment that encourages growth.
What You'll Do
- Organize, plan, and execute all class activities for enrolled children.
- Prepare for special program presentations and performances.
- Monitor the area at all times to ensure safety and make immediate changes as necessary.
- Provide a positive environment that actively encourages participation.
- Exemplify appropriate behavior as a role model, showing patience, understanding, and respect.
- Instruct participants on program rules and ensure adherence, disciplining within established guidelines.
- Exercise effective problem-solving and make timely decisions based on factual information.
- Ensure services are provided with sensitivity to cultural differences.
- Immediately report all unusual incidents or accidents and complete applicable reports.
- Record daily attendance and maintain accurate, complete records.
- Ensure the classroom is neat, orderly, and free of safety hazards.
- Foster interpersonal relationships and create an environment of cooperation and helpfulness.
- Develop and maintain age-appropriate activities.
- Ensure all necessary supplies are on hand and well-maintained.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings.
- Uphold all staff safety requirements, including cleaning protocols throughout the day.
- Perform all other duties as required.
What We're Looking For
- Successful completion of a State of Florida Criminal History Background Check.
- Prior experience working with children.
- Enthusiasm for the sport of dance and for working with children.
- Ability to adhere to a drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy.
- Able to maintain confidentiality.
- Employment is contingent upon completing required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
- CPR and First Aid Certifications required.
- Completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
- Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class.
- Completion of Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols.
Team & Environment
You will report directly to the Program Director, supporting the YMCA's community-focused mission.
Work Mode
This position is onsite at our facility.
