Mass General Brigham Community Physicians is looking for a Preoperative Evaluation Registered Nurse to join our team. In this remote role, you will conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments to ensure patients are medically optimized and prepared for scheduled surgical care. You will be central to promoting patient safety and a positive surgical experience through meticulous review, patient education, and coordination.
What You'll Do
- Perform thorough preoperative nursing assessments, including detailed medical history review, medication reconciliation, and evaluation of comorbid conditions.
- Review and ensure completion of all required preoperative testing, such as laboratory work, imaging, and EKGs, according to established clinical guidelines.
- Identify potential risk factors and collaborate with anesthesia, surgery, and other providers to address concerns and optimize patient readiness.
- Provide clear, comprehensive patient education regarding preoperative instructions, medication management, and perioperative expectations.
- Document all assessments, interventions, and communications accurately within the electronic medical record.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons’ offices, anesthesia teams, and ancillary departments to clarify orders or address patient-specific needs.
- Triage and respond to patient inquiries related to preoperative preparation and coordinate necessary follow-up.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and support patient safety initiatives, including infection prevention protocols.
- Maintain current knowledge of clinical best practices, surgical protocols, and perioperative guidelines.
What We're Looking For
- Current Registered Nurse license in good standing.
- PACU/PreOp or PreOp evaluation nursing experience is required.
- Strong critical thinking, assessment, and clinical judgment skills.
- Excellent communication, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration abilities.
- Proficiency with electronic medical record systems and strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Adherence to all C.A.R.E. standards.
- Evidence of the basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of patients.
- Demonstrated observational skills and the ability to set priorities.
- Ability to function under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective skills in applying hospital standards in service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time management.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
