Role Overview
This position provides dedicated legal support for technology-focused initiatives within the organization. Based in Knoxville, TN, the Counsel, Technology collaborates directly with product, engineering, and IT teams to guide the legal aspects of technology development, deployment, and compliance. The role ensures that commercial agreements and operational practices meet legal standards while supporting innovation and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on complex technology arrangements, including software licensing, cloud infrastructure, SaaS platforms, and third-party vendor contracts.
- Work alongside technical teams to support the design, development, and launch of digital products, platforms, and internal tools.
- Draft, analyze, and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts such as master services agreements, statements of work, and data processing addendums.
- Provide legal insight on data security, privacy regulations, and compliance frameworks including GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA.
- Support the organization’s approach to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and distributed ledger systems.
- Partner with privacy and compliance functions to align technology operations with evolving regulatory requirements.
- Help refine internal legal processes related to contracting, risk assessment, and technology governance.
- Track and interpret changes in laws and regulations affecting digital services and technology usage.
