Counsel, Technology – This role provides legal leadership across technology initiatives, ensuring agreements and practices align with business goals and regulatory standards. Based onsite in Knoxville, TN, you’ll work directly with product, engineering, and IT teams to support the development and deployment of new platforms and digital tools.
What You'll Do
- Lead legal strategy for technology transactions such as software licensing, SaaS arrangements, cloud infrastructure, and third-party vendor contracts.
- Review and advise on the design and rollout of technology products, ensuring legal risks are identified and managed.
- Draft, analyze, and negotiate commercial agreements, including master services agreements, statements of work, and data processing terms.
- Provide guidance on data security, privacy regulations, and compliance frameworks related to technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain.
- Work alongside privacy and compliance units to uphold standards under GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other relevant laws.
- Track changes in technology-related legislation and help shape internal policies to maintain legal readiness.
- Streamline legal workflows for contracting and technology reviews to improve efficiency and consistency.
Requirements
- Proven experience in technology law, commercial transactions, or intellectual property.
- Familiarity with data protection laws and cybersecurity principles.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical concepts and translate them into sound legal advice.
- Juris Doctor degree and active bar membership required.
Work Environment
This is an onsite position located in Knoxville, TN. Regular in-office collaboration is expected to support close alignment with business and technical teams.
