About the Role

Washington University in St. Louis is hiring a Coordinator of Medical Coding/Claims to serve as a Lead Coder within the Pediatrics Central Administration. This remote role is pivotal for ensuring coding accuracy and compliance, working directly with providers, coders, and supervisors to manage workflow, education, and complex billing processes.

What You'll Do

  • Send queries to providers and offer constructive documentation feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with the Pediatric Compliance Manager on coder and physician education initiatives.
  • Pull notes, create spreadsheets, and meet with physicians and administrators as requested.
  • Serve as a resource and assist in training new inpatient coders.
  • Perform quarterly scheduled and ad-hoc coder audits.
  • Assist with inpatient coder assignments based on Epic daily Work Que volumes.
  • Resolve Epic edits and appeals requests to ensure timely and accurate billing.
  • Review coding and billing reports for accuracy and identify issues requiring Epic ticket generation.
  • Provide feedback to the Supervisor on outstanding physician deficiencies and workflow concerns.
  • Manage Epic Work Ques to identify topics for monthly coder meetings.
  • Act as Lead Coder, covering coding assignments at multiple hospital locations and divisions.
  • Review documentation to determine proper CPT and ICD-10 codes for E&M services, procedures, and tests.
  • Cross-cover for the Coding Supervisor as needed.
  • Maintain required coding certification.
  • Develop and implement plans for information intake and claims processing from submission to payment.
  • Coordinate with staff on special project needs, budget information, and process modifications.
  • Monitor schedules and processes for effective follow-up, system maintenance, and claims completion.
  • Review process maps and claims history and oversee training courses.
  • Serve as a liaison between the department and associations, vendors, and public relations offices regarding coding and claims processes.
  • Provide testing processes, test results review, and secretarial support for routine and special projects.
  • Establish mailing lists, filing, and contact source lists.
  • Provide backup for front desk duties, answering telephones, mailing results, and other tasks.

What We're Looking For

  • Associate degree or a combination of education and experience substituting for the minimum education.
  • One of the following certifications/licenses: CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, RHIA, or RHIT.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in medical coding, claims processing, billing/collection practices, and accounting.
  • Experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree or 2 to 3 years of related experience.

  • Working ability to use a variety of coding and claims systems.
  • Skills in Communication, Confidentiality, CPT Coding, Data Systems, Effective Written Communication, ICD-10 Procedure Coding System, Interpersonal Communication, Medical Terminology, Office Equipment, Oral Communications, and Professional Etiquette.

You will work closely with Pediatrics Coding Supervisors and the Pediatric Compliance Manager.

  • Salary range: $56,200.00 - $87,100.00 annually.
