PATH is looking for a Consultant – Climate and Health to provide technical expertise and strategic implementation support for climate-health activities under the VERDES program in Brazil. You will work closely with PATH and AIIB teams to plan, coordinate, and deliver high-quality technical outputs.
What You'll Do
- Lead planning and coordination of climate-health activities in close collaboration with PATH and AIIB.
- Develop a detailed work plan aligned with VERDES objectives and timelines.
- Provide technical oversight to ensure quality, coherence, and relevance of all deliverables.
- Coordinate across tasks, partners, and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery.
- Lead the design of an integrated climate-health EWS for extreme heat and air pollution in Brazil.
- Conduct desk reviews and assessments of existing warning, response, and surveillance systems.
- Engage relevant government institutions (health, meteorology, environment, disaster management).
- Facilitate a one-day, in-person multi-stakeholder co-creation workshop.
- Support the development of an EWS blueprint, including institutional roles, data flows, alert thresholds, decision triggers, and last-mile communication considerations.
- Support the development of a practical climate-health risk communication strategy for state and municipal health authorities.
- Work with risk communication experts to define key messages, target audiences (including vulnerable populations), communication channels, and dissemination protocols.
- Support the development of a risk communication toolkit for use during extreme weather and climate-related health events.
- Support structured knowledge exchange on global and regional best practices related to climate-health preparedness.
- Co-design and convene 1–2 thematic virtual webinars (e.g., climate-health EWS, heat action planning, climate-resilient health systems).
- Consolidate findings, lessons learned, and recommendations across workstreams.
- Prepare a concise final synthesis report for submission to AIIB.
What We're Looking For
- Master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Environmental Health, Urban planning, Architecture, International Development, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in climate-health, health systems strengthening, disaster risk management, or related domains.
- Strong understanding of climate-related health risks, particularly extreme heat and air pollution.
- Strong analytical, writing, and synthesis skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Strong coordination and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multi-disciplinary, multi-country teams.
- Ability to engage senior technical and policy stakeholders with credibility and clarity.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting international financial institutions or large-scale policy programs is an asset.
- Portuguese proficiency is an asset.
