Role Overview
This position supports small businesses in understanding and meeting regulatory obligations at the City, State, and Federal levels. As a Compliance Advisor, you will conduct in-person consultations, clarify inspection expectations, and guide business owners through permitting, licensing, and violation resolution processes. You will work closely with NYC BEST and partner agencies to ensure equitable access to compliance resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver on-site, one-on-one support to businesses, addressing compliance concerns specific to their operations
- Clarify regulatory inspection procedures and help owners prepare for agency visits
- Identify corrective actions businesses can take to resolve noncompliance issues
- Explain violation adjudication timelines, hearing processes, and relevant jurisdictions
- Connect business owners with additional tools, programs, and city services to support compliance
- Document consultation outcomes and follow up as needed to ensure understanding and progress
- Research local, State, and Federal regulations, including codes, permits, and enforcement policies
- Support internal knowledge development by sharing updates on regulatory changes and agency practices
- Contribute to program improvement by identifying opportunities to strengthen outreach and service delivery
- Track client progress and compliance milestones using CRM and data analysis platforms
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, plan reviews, challenges, and operational timelines
- Monitor client pipelines and report on key performance indicators through dashboards and executive summaries
- Engage entrepreneurs early in business development to prevent compliance barriers before applications are filed
- Represent agency services through direct communication, outreach events, and community forums
- Develop new client relationships through partnerships, referrals, and public engagements
- Collaborate with city agencies to coordinate solutions for complex business compliance challenges
- Support broader agency initiatives and assist leadership with strategic relationship-building efforts
- Lead assigned projects and attend meetings or events across all five boroughs, including evenings and weekends
Work Environment
This is an onsite role requiring regular travel throughout New York City. You must be available for evening and weekend events as needed. The role demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and consistent use of CRM and data tracking systems.
