The Compensation Manager plays a key role in shaping and maintaining fair, competitive, and compliant compensation practices across the organization. This position leads the development and execution of compensation strategies that support business goals, regulatory requirements, and internal equity.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, manage, and evaluate compensation programs, policies, and salary structures
- Lead participation in industry compensation surveys and conduct benchmarking studies
- Analyze market data to inform salary ranges, increase budgets, and pay positioning
- Ensure compliance with FLSA and other federal, state, and local compensation regulations
- Provide expert consultation to HR partners and leadership on pay decisions, job evaluations, and policy interpretation
- Develop and maintain job grading frameworks and compensation communication materials
- Monitor program effectiveness and recommend improvements based on data and trends
- Support internal equity reviews and ensure consistency across global operations
- Administer compensation modules within HR systems, including Workday
- Collaborate with People and Culture teams to align pay practices with talent strategies
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field, along with at least eight years of progressive experience in compensation program design and administration. Supervisory experience is required, as is strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel—including advanced functions like VLOOKUPs and pivot tables—and HR information systems such as Workday.
A deep understanding of U.S. compensation laws, particularly those affecting federal contractors, is essential. Strong analytical, communication, and project management abilities are critical for success in this role.
Preferred qualifications include certification as a Compensation Professional (CCP), experience with MarketPay, and prior work in global or nonprofit environments.
