PCL Construction / PCL Industrial Services, Inc. is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to join our team on site in New South Wales. You will play a key role in the successful commissioning of solar projects, working alongside experienced professionals to ensure systems meet technical and performance standards.
What You'll Do
- Engage with consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors to align commissioning requirements with project deliverables.
- Perform on-site coordination of commissioning activities for HV substations, SCADA systems, and Power Conditioner Units.
- Oversee commissioning stages including quality assurance, cold and hot commissioning, and grid testing.
- Analyze, record, and maintain comprehensive records of commissioning data, test results, and system performance.
- Oversee and enforce strict LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) and isolation procedures.
- Ensure commissioning documentation complies with industry and engineering standards.
- Assist in diagnosing and resolving technical system issues identified during testing.
- Align commissioning schedules with overall project timelines and objectives.
- Review RFPs and contract documents to understand commissioning requirements.
- Monitor system performance post-commissioning and suggest technical enhancements.
- Supervise Operation and Maintenance activities to ensure all requirements are fulfilled.
- Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders to address and resolve issues.
- Build and sustain customer-focused relationships.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree/Advanced Diploma in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or Electrical Trade Qualifications with advanced technical training/experience.
- Minimum of 2 years experience with renewable energy projects.
- General knowledge of the construction industry, including specifications, methods, and procedures.
- Introductory knowledge of relevant construction codes.
- Basic construction inspection skills.
- Basic understanding of the change process related to cost, pricing, and scheduling impact.
- Familiarity with construction scheduling and sequencing to track mechanical and electrical progress.
- Ability to monitor and report trade resources to the project team.
- Ability to identify installation priorities to trade contractors per the schedule.
- Knowledge and ability to assist in the start-up and commissioning process.
- Ability to understand weather impacts on construction activities.
- Understanding of internal project commissioning assessment processes.
- Demonstrated planning, organizational, and time-management skills with the ability to multitask.
- Knowledge of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) protocols in the renewable energy sector.
- Ability to interpret 2D and 3D construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- White Card, LVR/CPR, High Voltage Switching Operator certifications.
- Must currently have Australian working rights.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with common project management software such as MS Suite, MS Project and/or P6.
- Familiarity with commissioning software such as PVSyst, PSSE, PowerFactory, ETAP and/or PSCAD.
