Inspect commercial vehicles across various locations during weekday daylight hours. As a Commercial Vehicle Inspector, you’ll operate independently, scheduling and completing inspections within 48 to 72 hours of assignment receipt. This contract-based role allows you to choose the jobs you take, offering control over your workload and schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate directly with on-site contacts to arrange inspection times
- Operate vehicles as needed to position them for comprehensive photo and video documentation
- Use heavy-duty diagnostic tools to retrieve fault codes and system data
- Assess vehicle condition by measuring tire tread and brake wear
- Identify fluid leaks and mechanical deficiencies
- Capture over 100 high-quality photos per inspection
- Record and submit detailed video walkthroughs
Qualifications
You must be highly organized, technically capable, and equipped to perform inspections efficiently. Required tools and access include:
- Heavy duty diagnostic scanner with reporting capability (OBD II compatible)
- Tire depth gauge
- Modern smartphone or tablet with strong data connectivity
- Laptop or desktop computer for report submission
- Proficiency with iOS, Google Chrome, and Microsoft platforms
- A valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle
ASE Certification is a plus but not required. You should be comfortable working autonomously and managing your own schedule.
Compensation and Work Structure
You’ll be paid a flat fee per completed inspection, with additional reimbursement for mileage. Work is local and self-directed, with flexibility built into each assignment. This is a 1099 contract position ideal for those seeking supplemental income and control over their work commitments.
