The College & Career Readiness Intern will support newly arrived refugee youth ages 15-19 in Utah through individualized guidance, workshop facilitation, and mentorship. As part of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), the intern will contribute to academic achievement, career exploration, and life skills development while working within a supportive, multicultural team.
What You'll Do
- Support the facilitation of weekly open office hours, providing individualized guidance on college and career readiness topics
- Conduct program intakes to set a baseline for growth and a starting point for service provision
- Engage clients in monthly workshops and outdoor adventure experiences by coordinating outreach through texts, phone calls, and transportation support
- Assist in delivering content by presenting sections of monthly workshops
- Maintain accurate and timely program case notes for intakes, workshops, events, and assessments
- Participate in staff development and team meetings when available
- Perform other duties as assigned by the College and Career Readiness Coordinator
What We're Looking For
- Must be currently enrolled in a graduate/undergraduate program or have graduated less than 6 months ago
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English
- A background check is required
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of working independently
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Availability for some evening and weekend commitments, with a preference for regular Wednesday afternoons and evenings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Valid UT Driver’s License, access to a vehicle, willingness to drive clients
Nice to Have
- Fluency in additional foreign language
- Strong passion for working with teenage youth
- Prior experience in youth engagement or mentorship
- Experience working and communicating effectively in a multicultural environment, specifically with refugee and immigrant populations
