U-Haul is hiring a Coding Compliance Auditor - Coding Services - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)

About the Role

U-Haul is hiring a Coding Compliance Auditor to ensure accurate and complete code assignments for professional charges. This full-time, onsite role is critical for maintaining compliance with federal regulations and coding guidelines while supporting the education and accuracy of coding staff.

What You'll Do

  • Perform monthly internal coding audits to evaluate staff accuracy and ensure required coding accuracy rates are met.
  • Develop monitoring and education plans for coding staff who do not meet the required accuracy rate.
  • Recognize education needs based on monthly reviews and conduct related in-services.
  • Act as a resource to coding staff, USC Care staff, and providers on coding issues and questions.
  • Perform professional coding of all diagnostic and procedural information from medical records using ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS, and Modifier classification systems.
  • Work cooperatively with Coding Support and/or CBO to obtain documentation for complete medical records and optimal code assignment.
  • Maintain expected productivity standards and work coding queues to ensure charges are released within defined timelines.
  • Assist other coders, the Billing department, physicians, and staff with coding issues and questions.
  • Assist in monitoring unbilled accounts to ensure oldest records are coded and/or given priority.
  • Adhere to coding policies and procedures as directed by Coding management.
  • Participate in department and section quality improvement activities and processes.
  • Communicate effectively intra-departmentally, inter-departmentally, and with external customers.
  • Provide timely follow-up with both written and verbal requests for information.

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of college courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology and a certified coding course (combined education/experience can substitute).
  • Five (5) years of experience in ICD-9 & ICD-10 (combined) coding and auditing of Professional charges, E/M, surgical, and multispecialty medical records in clinic and hospital settings.
  • Experience researching CMS regulations and guidance for documentation and coding.
  • Certification as a Certified Professional Coder - CPC (AAPC) OR AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P).
  • Successful completion of the professional-specific coding test with a passing score of ≥85%.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – if no card upon hire, must obtain within 30 days (Required within LA City only).

Benefits & Compensation

  • Hourly pay range: $33.00 - $54.02
