The Oregon Department of Human Services is hiring a Cloud Platform Engineer (Information Systems Specialist 7). In this role, you will provide expert consultation and conduct comprehensive analysis, planning, and implementation for information systems, with a focus on cloud. You will design, construct, operate, and maintain the infrastructure platforms that host applications developed by our Software Engineering teams, directly supporting our agency's Cloud Forward strategy.
What You'll Do
- Provide expert-level in-depth support, architectural and testing guidance for technically sophisticated computer software and data systems foundational to mission-critical systems.
- Design, construct, operate, and maintain infrastructure platforms to host applications developed by Software Engineering teams.
- Serve a customer base including technically sophisticated end-users, software vendors, systems programmers, technical contractors, and system management staff.
- Build and operate an enterprise cloud hosting platform as part of a new team.
- Adhere to the agency cloud adoption framework and the State of Oregon's Cloud Forward strategy.
What We're Looking For
- Must have at least one (1) year of professional experience in an enterprise environment with a leading cloud computing platform such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Six (6) years of information systems experience in at least one leading cloud computing platform such as Azure, GCP, or AWS.
- OR an Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or two-year vocational training) AND four (4) years of information systems experience in at least one leading cloud computing platform.
- OR a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND two (2) years of information systems experience in at least one leading cloud computing platform.
- OR a Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.
Nice to Have
- Functional knowledge of at least one leading cloud computing platform such as Azure, GCP, or AWS.
- Working knowledge of GitOps concepts and tools for implementation.
- Experience in cloud application support, development, programming, testing and/or database administration.
- Experience building and releasing infrastructure-as-code (IAC) in controlled environments with an understanding of lifecycle configuration management.
- Understanding of Cloud native development, DevOps, Azure DevOps (or similar), PaaS/SaaS/LaaS/DBaaS solutions, configuration management tools, and/or other cloud computing platforms.
- Knowledge of cloud platform administration tools for identity management, cost management, resource management, monitoring tools, security controls, and compliance reporting.
- Proficiency in deploying solutions to cloud platforms, with a focus on serverless or containerized applications.
- Knowledge of cloud solution architecture including hybrid cloud systems with significantly different technology stacks both on premise and with multiple cloud providers.
- Understanding of the concepts, methodologies, techniques, and tools of system development.

- Compensation: $6,679 - $10,092 per month (non-PERS qualifying range). PERS qualifying salary range reflects an additional 6.95%.
