As a Professional System Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing, maintaining, and optimizing open-source infrastructure for diverse client environments. Your work will focus on configuring and upgrading unmanaged services such as GitLab instances and Vault clusters, diagnosing system issues, and delivering tailored technical solutions that align with customer needs.
What You'll Do
- Assess technical requirements and resolve isolated system issues while identifying optimization opportunities
- Configure, maintain, and upgrade advanced services and applications in Linux-based environments
- Develop comprehensive documentation for core system components from the ground up
- Deliver expert-level technical support, troubleshooting complex malfunctions and coordinating with vendors when necessary
- Customize and deploy existing platforms to meet specific customer configurations and operational demands
Requirements
- Minimum of two years of hands-on experience as a system engineer in Linux-centric infrastructures
- Solid understanding of open-source technologies, cloud platforms, and DevOps workflows, including web and application servers, networking, databases, virtualization, containers, and system management
- Proficiency in writing code with error handling, logging, and debugging capabilities
- Experience modifying and building automation scripts to manage cloud resources and system changes
- Strong systems thinking—ability to grasp interdependencies across platforms and technologies
- Demonstrated reliability, attention to detail, and commitment to quality and established procedures
- Collaborative mindset with a track record of contributing to team goals and fostering positive working relationships
- Self-motivated approach to problem-solving, goal-setting, and maintaining productivity in a remote setting
- Proactive attitude—comfortable making independent decisions, taking initiative, and raising concerns when needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with GitLab, HashiCorp, RedHat, or SUSE technologies
- Industry certifications in GitLab, HashiCorp, Red Hat, SUSE, AWS, Azure, or GCP
