The University of British Columbia (UBC) is looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our platform engineering team. You will advance our Infrastructure as Code practices, manage Kubernetes deployments, and develop Helm configurations for a next-generation modeling and simulation framework. Your work will support scalable, cloud-enabled solutions for the Department of Defense.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and maintain cloud and on-premises infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Pulumi.
- Develop and manage Kubernetes clusters, including creating and maintaining Helm charts for complex applications.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and monitoring to ensure scalability and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and implement best practices.
- Ensure secure, resilient environments aligned with Department of Defense and Zero Trust principles.
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and deployment issues across various environments.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, IT, or a related field.
- US citizenship and the ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Hands-on experience with containerization technologies like Docker, Podman, or CRI-O.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure Automation & Scripting with languages such as Python, Go, or Bash.
- Demonstrated experience administering Kubernetes clusters and managing deployments.
- Proven ability with Helm for Kubernetes applications.
- A strong understanding of networking concepts including DNS, TLS, firewalls, and VLANs.
- Proficiency with Git and Git-based workflows.
- A strong background in Linux and SELinux system administration.
Nice to Have
- Relevant certifications like Security+, CISSP, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS).
- Familiarity with Department of Defense security practices and hardened Linux distributions.
- Experience with service mesh or API gateway technologies such as Istio, Linkerd, or Kong.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud service providers.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, or Elastic.
- Exposure to Zero Trust architectures and advanced cybersecurity practices.
