Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist – Surgical Assessment Unit to join our Southern Region team. This role is pivotal in our newly established General Surgical Assessment Unit, providing senior nurses an opportunity to lead early patient assessment and care planning in collaboration with the surgical medical team.
What You'll Do
- Lead early assessment of acute surgical patients.
- Facilitate patient diagnostics and develop plans of care in collaboration with the Surgical medical team.
- Provide improved acute surgical patient care and assessment in fit for purpose environments.
What We're Looking For
- Current NZ nursing council registration.
- Minimum Post Graduate Certificate with endorsement in advanced health assessment.
- Hold or be working towards a post graduate diploma and/or master's degree.
- Advanced communication techniques such as conflict resolution, diffusion and mediation skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Base skills in quality improvement work such as protocols and guidelines development, adverse event review.
Nice to Have
- Advanced clinical skills such as cannulation and RN prescribing rights.
- Working towards RN prescribing rights.
Team & Environment
You will be part of the Surgical Services and Radiology Directorate, Nursing team, reporting to the Director of Nursing Surgical Dunedin Service.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $116,040 - $127,674 p.a pro rata.

This is an onsite position located at Dunedin Hospital.
