Amentum is hiring a Chief Engineer, Assistant to be based in Iraq, supporting the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract for the U.S. Department of State. You will serve as the professional authority on all engineering questions, taking ownership of water purification, storage, distribution, wastewater treatment, and all power generation, transmission, and distribution equipment on site.

What You'll Do

• Maintain a safe workplace, ensuring safety is the highest priority and complying with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
• Oversee the prime power and water treatment/wastewater treatment programs.
• Supervise operations of water and wastewater treatment plants, including water quality labs, pumping, filtering, piping, and control systems.
• Ensure the viability, availability, and safety of water treatment and waste distribution systems.
• Maintain water well operations and storage systems, managing waste streams to contractual standards.
• Oversee operation, calibration, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs of all mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
• Oversee preventive maintenance, condition monitoring, repair, installation, and modernization of all power generation, transmission, and distribution equipment.
• Support prime power generators from manufacturers like Caterpillar, Cummins, Perkins, and FG Wilson with outputs from 20 kW up to 1600 kW.
• Provide daily guidance to Supervisors, Operators, Mechanics, and Technicians.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections and report any malfunctions or SOW non-compliance.
• Assist in developing Statements of Work, including diagrams and specifications compliant with OBO, EPA, OSHA, and NEC standards.
• Maintain effective communication with the Chief Engineer, employees, managers, and supporting organizations.
• Perform administrative tasks including ordering material, inventorying, and scheduling work.
• Support the Chief Engineer in managing logistics, stock levels, and workflow processes.
• Collect, analyze, and summarize data for report preparation.
• Maintain a technical library and record-keeping documenting all procedures.
• Be responsible for facility custodianship and management of tools, equipment, and spare parts.
• Take initiative to analyze situations and make technical decisions based on specifications and safety codes.
• Evaluate operational effectiveness and develop effective control mechanisms.
• Assume the duties of the Chief Engineer when required.

What We're Looking For

• Three (3) years’ experience in operations and maintenance of a water treatment plant, facility, base, or municipality, including emergency generator operations.
• Two (2) years’ management experience overseeing large facility preventive maintenance programs, supervising a workforce of 15 or more personnel in an overseas setting.
• A high school diploma or GED.
• Technical school or recognized technical training in water treatment.
• Certifications relating to Water Treatment and Wastewater treatment testing operations.
• Knowledge of applicable U.S. Codes and accepted trade practices.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and considerable skill for the installation, maintenance, and repair of power generation and water/wastewater systems.
• Good organizational and communication skills with sound independent judgment.
• Knowledge of principles for supporting contract responsibilities at an overseas facility.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks and adapting to changing priorities.
• Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to be a functioning team member, innovative, and an agent for change.
• Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.
• Valid passport with 18 months minimum validity and 8 blank pages.
• Valid driver’s license from Home of Record.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance.
• US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
• Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and comply with safety measures.
• Eligibility for US Government Clearance.
• Ability to successfully complete and pass required medical and dental examinations for deployment to Iraq and maintain physical and dental requirements.

Nice to Have

• Degree in hydrology, civil engineering, or water resources/management.
• Previous out-of-home country experience and work experience in harsh environmental conditions.
• Experience with Variable Frequency Drives and PLC controls.
• Experience working with Amentum.
