The Trustees of Reservations is hiring a Chief Development Officer

Responsibilities

  • Deliver organization-wide strategic direction for all fundraising initiatives
  • Lead the execution of a landmark $300M+ comprehensive campaign tied to long-term mission goals
  • Enhance sustainable fundraising systems, donor connections, and a culture of giving beyond the campaign horizon
  • Collaborate with executive and board leadership to define annual, campaign, and future fundraising targets
  • Design and implement development strategies consistent with the organization’s overarching strategic objectives
  • Maintain current annual giving levels while growing unrestricted support, major gifts, and key campaign milestones
  • Orchestrate a multi-phase $300M+ capital and programmatic fundraising effort with support from consultants and leadership
  • Act as a key strategic advisor to the chief executive officer
  • Support executive priorities by preparing for donor interactions and enhancing leadership effectiveness in external engagement
  • Create and manage a unified fundraising approach encompassing annual giving, major gifts, membership, institutional funding, planned giving, and donor involvement
  • Personally steward and solicit gifts from top-tier donor prospects in coordination with senior leadership
  • Lead efforts to identify and cultivate new high-capacity donors and philanthropic communities
  • Expand and deepen donor networks across the state
  • Engage and activate board members to contribute meaningfully to fundraising success
  • Train and empower board volunteers to build, nurture, and solicit donor relationships
  • Collaborate with program and functional leaders as a strategic thought partner
  • Translate mission-based projects into compelling funding narratives tailored to donor interests
  • Advance a donor engagement model centered on storytelling and demonstrated impact
  • Ensure donors clearly see the results and benefits of their contributions
  • Deliver personalized, high-quality donor stewardship experiences
  • Coordinate with internal teams or personally manage donor relationships as required
  • Align event planning with major gift development and donor engagement goals
  • Identify and leverage opportunities to strengthen donor connections and giving outcomes
  • Maintain deep knowledge of organizational programs, strategic goals, and external context
  • Represent the organization effectively to donors, partners, and stakeholders
