Responsibilities
- Lead ESC/Chassis Control performance development – SW calibration and HW validation
- Conduct FMVSS126 ESC certification test and NCAP rollover test
- Participate winter test in Sweden, North America, New Zealand, Japan, China and Korea and conduct low mu performance calibration/verification of ESC and Chassis Dynamics Control System
- Support in-house chassis control logic development and lead tuning application
- Develop in-house testing as needed, specifying and procuring instrumentation and conducting test trials.
- Develop/conduct objective test and analysis following National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) test procedures and major media test procedure
- Conduct objective benchmarking of competitive vehicles and Hyundai/Kia at specified development “gateway points.”
- Conduct customer feedback research to understand customer requirement. Understand and translate HMC, KMC, HMA, and KMA product vision for Vehicle Dynamics into actual vehicle performance.
- Support all chassis research & development activities at the Proving Ground.
- Work in a team environment as well as independently. Mentor junior level engineers.
- Support manufacturing organization with pre-launch activities through plant visits. Support special problem assessment and countermeasure recommendations.
- Attend industry sponsored Conferences & Trainings, and Vendor Demonstrations to review and continuously improve chassis components and systems.
- Create and present technical reports as assigned.
- Collaborate with Chassis/Brake and NVH Engineers to develop and improve ESC and Chassis Dynamics Control performance for HMG vehicles as needed.
- May be required to install suspension related parts or tires on vehicles or to direct technicians to perform installations.
- Perform additional chassis development projects as assigned.
- Travel up to 40% of time domestically and internationally.
- Assist in planning and monitoring of department budget.
- Perform administrative functions such as purchasing requests, timecard, vacation requests, travel requests, etc.
Requirements
- Knowledge of Automotive Industry engineering and manufacturing.
- Knowledge of electrified vehicle architecture, brake by wire and regenerative braking systems.
- Strong knowledge of Automotive Vehicle Dynamics Control principles and practices.
- Strong knowledge of SAE and FMVSS test procedures and methods related to automotive chassis control and ability to personally conduct such testing.
- Knowledge of Project Management principles and practices.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and capability.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity and ethical behavior.
- Experience working in culturally diverse team environment.
- Proficient driving skills.
- Expert technical report writing skills.
- Proficient with data acquisition systems and sensing equipment including CAN bus data acquisition.
- Proficient Project Management skills.
- Proficient skills in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Proficient time management and organization skills.
- Proficient self-management skills.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
- Documented professional high performance driving experience
Nice to Have
- 0-3+ years in Vehicle Evaluation & Development in the Automotive Industry.
