Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for a Chassis Control Calibration Engineer I to develop ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and chassis dynamics control systems from prototype through production. You will conduct subjective and objective testing, lead calibration and validation, and benchmark competitive vehicles to translate customer preferences and product vision into actual vehicle performance.
What You'll Do
- Lead ESC/Chassis Control performance development, including SW calibration and HW validation.
- Conduct FMVSS126 ESC certification and NCAP rollover tests.
- Participate in winter testing globally (Sweden, North America, New Zealand, etc.) to calibrate and verify low-friction performance of control systems.
- Support in-house chassis control logic development and lead tuning application.
- Develop in-house testing, specify and procure instrumentation, and conduct test trials.
- Develop and conduct objective tests and analysis following NHTSA and major media test procedures.
- Conduct objective benchmarking of competitive and Hyundai/Kia vehicles at key development milestones.
- Gather customer feedback to understand requirements and translate product vision into performance targets.
- Support all chassis research & development activities at the Proving Ground.
- Work independently and in a team, mentoring junior engineers.
- Support manufacturing pre-launch activities with plant visits, problem assessment, and countermeasure recommendations.
- Attend industry conferences, trainings, and vendor demonstrations to review and improve chassis systems.
- Create and present technical reports.
- Collaborate with Chassis/Brake and NVH Engineers to improve system performance.
- Install suspension parts or tires on vehicles or direct technicians to do so.
- Travel up to 40% of the time domestically and internationally.
- Assist in planning and monitoring the department budget.
- Perform administrative functions such as purchasing, timecards, and travel requests.
What We're Looking For
- Knowledge of Automotive Industry engineering and manufacturing.
- Knowledge of electrified vehicle architecture, brake-by-wire, and regenerative braking systems.
- Strong knowledge of Automotive Vehicle Dynamics Control principles and practices.
- Strong knowledge of SAE and FMVSS test procedures and the ability to personally conduct such testing.
- Knowledge of Project Management principles and practices.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and capability.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and ethical behavior.
- Experience working in a culturally diverse team environment.
- Expert technical report writing skills.
- Proficient driving skills and a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Documented professional high-performance driving experience.
- Proficient with data acquisition systems and sensing equipment including CAN bus data acquisition.
- Proficient Project Management skills.
- Proficient skills in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Proficient time management, organization, self-management, and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- 0-3+ years in Vehicle Evaluation & Development in the Automotive Industry.
- 0-3+ years in Vehicle Chassis/Chassis Control System Tuning & Development experience.
