Capital Impact Partners is hiring a Business Development Officer, Eastern Region to build strategic relationships and source lending transactions for our Community Development Lending (CDL) team. We are working to reinvent traditional financial systems and advance locally-led solutions that create economic mobility and generational wealth.
What You'll Do
- Market and promote our Community Development Lending products to prospects, community lenders, and financial institutions across the Washington, DC Metro Area, New York City Metro Area, and Detroit Metro Area.
- Identify, foster, and maintain relationships with partners, borrowers, and stakeholders within our sectors across the assigned markets.
- Manage the CDL loan pipeline for the Eastern Region.
- Respond to all CDL loan inquiries in the Eastern Region in a timely manner.
- Represent the organization at conferences, webinars, and other business functions.
- Monitor market trends and opportunities.
- Gather data about product offerings and identify areas for improvement.
- Assist with developing and implementing products, services, and special initiatives within assigned markets.
- Coordinate information sharing and collaboration across our teams in the Eastern Region.
- Demonstrate understanding of the entire loan suite and collaborate on cross-marketing opportunities.
- Assist the Marketing and Communications team in producing communications about our lending impact.
- Ensure communications and promotional materials remain accurate.
- Assist the Compliance team in reporting to funders and investors on specific lending programs.
- Support the Fundraising team in preparing grant applications and proposals.
- Identify, meet, and screen potential borrowers and their community development projects.
- Establish clear expectations with prospective borrowers regarding lending products and processes.
- Pre-screen, compile, structure, and analyze loan applications for eligibility and creditworthiness.
- Provide business history, management, loan purpose, and eligibility narratives.
- Determine loan eligibility based on geographic, impact, or strategy requirements.
- Determine creditworthiness based on cash flow and credit history.
- Identify major risks to assist credit approvers in making loan decisions.
- Perform preliminary loan structuring, propose terms, and secure preliminary approval.
- Prepare Letters of Interest and Term Sheets, communicate terms, and negotiate as appropriate.
- Manage smooth transition of loan prospects to Loan Officers and Underwriters.
- Work with team members to resolve relationship, structuring, and credit challenges on transactions.
- Assist with loan screening and credit memos in other geographic markets as needed.

- Candidates residing in the Washington, DC Metro Area, New York City Metro Area, or Detroit Metro Area are strongly preferred, with greatest prioritization given to those in the Washington, DC Metro Area.
Team & Environment
This role is part of the Community Development Lending team and reports to the Director of Business Development.
