Role Overview
This position leads business development efforts within a defined region, focusing on building and expanding client relationships in the life sciences industry. The ideal candidate will combine scientific knowledge with strategic sales acumen to identify new market opportunities, qualify prospects, and advance proposals to successful closure.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify and engage decision-makers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors to uncover new business opportunities
- Manage end-to-end customer relationships, from initial contact through contract negotiation and onboarding
- Coordinate with internal scientific and technical teams to develop tailored solutions for client needs
- Organize and lead business meetings and conferences, ensuring clear agendas, follow-up actions, and ongoing communication
- Represent the organization at industry events, trade shows, and client sites to strengthen visibility and market presence
- Monitor and report on sales pipelines, ensuring accurate tracking of opportunities against KPIs and revenue targets
- Facilitate client visits, including international travel arrangements, to support partnership development
- Identify potential risks to client relationships and collaborate with leadership to implement effective resolutions
- Support cross-functional teamwork and contribute to a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a life science discipline such as biology or chemistry
- Proven ability to meet or exceed sales quotas and profitability goals
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency in PC-based tools and CRM systems for tracking customer interactions
- Demonstrated success in lead generation, opportunity qualification, and deal closure
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on active listening and strategic negotiation
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives
- Willingness to travel frequently, including day visits and overnight trips, depending on location
- Valid driver’s license and passport required
Preferred Experience
- At least three years of industry experience, with a minimum of one year in business development
- Background in contract research organizations (CROs) or related life sciences services
- Familiarity with discovery biology and preclinical development workflows
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role with significant travel requirements. Local candidates should expect up to 40% day travel to client sites and up to 20% overnight travel for conferences. Remote candidates will have approximately 25% overnight travel. The role demands flexibility and strong time management to support regional and global client needs.
