Walter-tools is looking for a Business Development Manager (m/f/d) focused on the Defense segment to transform market insights into actionable strategies and drive revenue growth. You will collaborate cross-functionally to shape global go-to-market plans and enable regional execution, with a flexible location within Europe or the USA.
What You'll Do
- Drive segment-specific revenue growth by planning and executing structured development activities to strengthen market presence.
- Create the Industry Segment Strategy Blueprint as a clear, actionable foundation for global and regional decision-making.
- Initiate, plan, and manage KPIs to secure successful local execution of global segment strategies.
- Develop a segment-specific budgeting process aligned with global growth ambitions to support strategic investment decisions.
- Capture existing and future customer needs and translate them into concrete portfolio requirements to guide offering development.
- Define Focus Components and align prioritization with COM/PLM to drive the right content, solutions, and technologies forward.
- Continuously refine global segment strategies by monitoring market shifts, customer trends, and competitive dynamics.
- Build and maintain strategic technology partnerships with machine tool builders, customers, research institutions, and universities.
- Develop and transfer technical expertise within the sales region to enable teams with state-of-the-art knowledge.
- Act as a central interface between Application Development, Sales, and Engineering to ensure seamless know-how transfer.
- Create structured action plans for revenue growth on both segment and customer levels.
- Support the Sales Force to develop leads and opportunities, including solutions Beyond Tools.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial/Mechanical Engineering, Business, or equivalent education and experience.
- Strong track record in Sales, Business Development, or Key Account Management within the metal-cutting or machining industry.
- Experience navigating complex customer environments with confidence.
- Strong know-how in cutting tools, machining applications, and translating customer needs into portfolio requirements.
- Understanding of commercial management, sales techniques, and market-analysis methods.
- Solid project-management skills and ability to turn strategic initiatives into clear, executable actions.
- Skilled in negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management across Application Development, Sales, Engineering, and external partners.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong business vision to identify opportunities and support Beyond Tools value creation.
- Fluent in English and comfortable working across diverse teams and cultural contexts.
- Structured, responsible, and outcome-oriented, with the ability to plan, implement, and drive activities independently.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support customers, teams, and strategic initiatives.
Team & Environment
You will collaborate closely with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Sales, and Marketing teams. The role acts as a central interface between Application Development, Sales, and Engineering.
