About the Role

Mercy Corps is hiring a Senior Climate Adaptation Advisor to provide technical support for climate adaptation and water security programming worldwide. This role is part of the Climate & Water Security team within the Technical Support, Evidence, and Program Quality Unit. You will design programs, assess quality, lead fundraising, build capacity, and represent Mercy Corps at key events.

What You'll Do

  • Write and review proposals and concept notes for donors including foundations, corporations, government agencies, and climate finance facilities.
  • Research, analyze, and assess data to determine program needs, priorities, and Mercy Corps’ advantages for funding.
  • Collaborate with program, country, regional, and TEQ teams on prepositioning, strategy development, and designing multi-sectoral programs.
  • Lead writing complex, competitive proposals following Mercy Corps’ best practices.
  • Provide technical support to Mercy Corps’ teams globally, including those in complex crisis environments.
  • Maintain standards of program delivery through application of agency approaches and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Increase program capacity through developing and circulating tools such as training, manuals, case studies, webinars, and monitoring and evaluation tools.
  • Provide in-country and remote training for Mercy Corps staff, partners, and programs.
  • Build a strong community of practice across Mercy Corps in the technical area.
  • Represent Mercy Corps at academic events, conferences, media forums, and other events.
  • Identify and nurture strategic partnerships with other organizations and institutions.
  • Actively learn about safeguarding and integrate it into their work.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership and maintain the highest ethical standards.

What We're Looking For

  • 5 to 7 years of experience providing increasingly proficient technical support in the relevant field.
  • Proven experience in new business prepositioning and research, proposal and concept note development.
  • Experience engaging public and private climate donors.
  • Experience leading all aspects of large and complex proposals and managing integrated grant writing teams.
  • Experience producing and publishing practical knowledge products for program teams.
  • Strong knowledge of, and a track record of leading successful fundraising efforts with public and private climate finance actors.
  • Practical field experience, typically over the course of 2 years, including field assignments or living in a field location.
  • Experience with emergency response assignment or other crisis response work.
  • Experience delivering Capacity Building curriculum or processes for program teams.
  • Familiarity with major donors such as DFID, the EC and relevant foundations and corporations.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Proven track record of project management.
  • Experience in coaching or mentoring team members.
  • Strong familiarity with the ecosystem of climate finance institutions.
  • Comfortable working with diverse teams.
  • Creative, adaptive, and flexible.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional writing skills and effective communication.
  • Excellent external relationship and partnership management.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • M.A. or equivalent in a relevant field and relevant technical certifications preferred.
  • Fluency in a foreign language preferred.

This role is part of the Climate & Water Security team within the Technical Support, Evidence, and Program Quality Unit.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Dedicate 5% of time to learning activities for personal and/or professional growth.
  • Starting salary for UK £53,360 – £62,164, commensurate on professional experience.

Work Mode

This is a remote position, based in the UK.
