Work in one of Canada’s most remote and demanding environments as a Baker supporting camp food service operations in Nunavut. This position is part of a talent pool for future openings, contributing to essential operations in northern regions under Horizon North’s food service division.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support night shift staff through training and on-the-job guidance
- Prepare and bake a variety of goods from raw ingredients, ensuring consistency and freshness
- Monitor inventory and replenish pastry displays to maintain supply
- Develop and follow menus that meet quality and dietary requirements
- Adhere to food safety protocols in compliance with the Food Safety Act
- Keep workspaces, tools, and equipment clean and sanitized
- Identify opportunities to improve kitchen efficiency and output
Qualifications and Requirements
This role demands physical and mental resilience. Candidates must be prepared for:
- Safety-sensitive protocols, including mandatory drug, alcohol, and fitness-for-duty testing
- Extended shifts and rotational work schedules such as 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off
- Harsh northern conditions—extreme cold, high winds, and prolonged darkness
- Living and working in isolation with limited outside contact
- Fly-in/fly-out travel with potential weather-related delays
- Strict adherence to health, safety, and operational policies
