The Audio Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and ensuring high-quality audio across all SportyNet productions, including live shows, recorded programs, interviews, match broadcasts, and digital streams. This role works closely with production, technical operations, engineering, and on-air talent to deliver clear, balanced, and reliable audio while maintaining broadcast standards and resolving issues in real time.
What You'll Do
- Operate audio consoles during live shows, match broadcasts, studio recordings, and special productions
- Manage microphones, IFBs, intercoms, ambient mics, music beds, playback, and SFX
- Ensure proper gain structure, EQ, dynamics, and audio balance for hosts, commentators, analysts, and guests
- Apply audio transitions and mixes according to the show’s rundown and production cues
- Set up microphones, audio monitors, IFB systems, comms, and other audio equipment required for productions
- Route audio sources across consoles, patch bays, and digital/NDI systems
- Conduct pre-show sound checks and rehearsals, ensuring all sources are clean and ready
- Validate audio feeds for remote guests, live contributions, and external transmissions
- Monitor audio levels, loudness standards, phase alignment, and sync with video
- Detect and resolve issues such as noise, distortion, feedback, dropouts, and interference
- Ensure compliance with broadcast audio norms and channel sound identity
- React quickly to unexpected issues during live programming
- Work with producers to interpret rundown cues, timing, and specific audio requirements
- Collaborate with engineering teams to maintain audio infrastructure and troubleshoot technical issues
- Align with video, graphics, and vMix teams to ensure seamless audio integration into the final broadcast output
- Support digital teams with proper audio levels and routing for online streams
- Assist with audio setups for field shoots, interviews, mixed zones, and remote productions when needed
- Operate portable recorders, wireless systems, and field mixers
- Guarantee clean capture and proper monitoring during external events
- Maintain audio equipment, cables, wireless systems, and inventory
- Log audio issues, label sources, and organize microphone kits and accessories
- Suggest improvements for audio workflows, presets, templates, and routing structures
- Support documentation of audio standards and SOPs
What We're Looking For
- Degree or technical training in Audio Engineering, Broadcasting, Audiovisual Production, or related fields
- Experience operating audio consoles in live production environments (TV, streaming, events, or sports)
- Familiarity with studio, control-room, and field audio workflows
- Experience working with on-air talent and managing multiple audio sources simultaneously
- Proficiency with digital audio consoles (e.g., Yamaha, Behringer, Avid, or similar)
- Understanding of microphones, wireless systems, IFB, intercoms, and monitoring setups
- Knowledge of audio standards: loudness, EQ, compression, routing, sync
- Ability to troubleshoot audio issues quickly under pressure
- Intermediate English for reading technical documentation and device manuals
- Strong attention to detail and excellent listening skills
- Calm and composed under pressure during live broadcasts
- Effective communication with technical, editorial, and production teams
- Proactive, organized, and solution-oriented mindset
- Ability to multitask and maintain accuracy in fast-paced environments
