About the Role
The selected candidate will focus on defending employers, insurers, and third-party administrators in workers' compensation matters. Responsibilities include managing caseloads, representing clients at hearings, drafting legal documents, and advising on risk mitigation strategies specific to California law.
Responsibilities
- Represent clients in workers' compensation proceedings before state boards and administrative bodies
- Manage a high-volume caseload of defense-oriented claims
- Conduct depositions and gather evidence to support defense positions
- Prepare and file responsive pleadings and motions
- Advise clients on exposure and liability assessments
- Negotiate settlements in accordance with client objectives
- Attend mandatory settlement conferences and mediations
- Litigate disputed issues including causation, disability, and return-to-work plans
- Monitor changes in state-specific workers' compensation regulations
- Collaborate with medical and vocational experts to build case strategy
- Draft discovery requests and responses
- Provide legal opinions on coverage and claims handling
- Maintain accurate case files and documentation
- Ensure compliance with procedural deadlines and court rules
- Communicate regularly with clients regarding case status and strategy
