Canada Life is looking for an Associate Manager, Accounting Team to join our Finance department. You will be responsible for completing financial activities in compliance with regulations and accounting standards while providing effective day-to-day oversight and guidance to team members.
What You'll Do
- Maintain responsibility for financial accounting and reporting, including the preparation and review of monthly Corporate financials, interim and annual Fund financials, quarterly investment portfolios, and annual Fund Facts.
- Support the team by providing oversight of monthly variance analysis, expense analysis, journal entry approval, and account reconciliations.
- Oversee internal, external, Enterprise Risk Management CSOX, and regulatory audits.
- Create and maintain models that support business lines, revenue, expenses, profitability, and projections.
- Participate in annual budget preparation.
- Ensure Internal Controls and Operational procedure manuals are continuously updated.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to team members as a first point of contact on day-to-day operations matters requiring guidance, review, or escalation.
- Develop and enhance team processes and improvements.
- Establish and maintain effective communications across teams.
- Support the team’s direct reporting leader by identifying learning opportunities and knowledge gaps and assisting in developing learning plans.
- Assess and monitor team workload and respond accordingly to changing conditions based on capacity and business needs.
- Support management by recognizing positive contributions, providing on-the-job coaching, and facilitating team monthly meetings.
What We're Looking For
- 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience in the financial services industry.
- Completion of post-secondary education with a specialization in Accounting.
- An Accounting designation.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of IFRS principles and guidelines.
- Knowledge of SAP.
- Some knowledge of Microsoft Business Tools to support team and other groups.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate organizational goals and objectives clearly and concisely.
- A positive and collaborative approach to teamwork and effective listening skills.
- Ability to influence and teach team members with encouragement.
- Ability to prioritize effectively within tight deadlines.
- Ability to coach, train, mentor, lead, and provide operational oversight to team members.
- Very strong proficiency using MS Word and Excel.
- Ability to prepare professional-looking reports and diagrams.
- Ability to consolidate, prepare, and verify data for metrics and reports, with a demonstrated aptitude for building financial models for complex processes using advanced formulas.

- Salary: $71,900 - $119,800 annually
