FHI 360 is seeking an Associate General Counsel to provide expert legal advice, counsel, and oversight for a broad range of matters affecting the organization and its subsidiaries. This integral role on our legal team encompasses corporate governance, tax-exempt status, contracts, intellectual property, data privacy, and risk management, reporting directly to the General Counsel.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a legal liaison to organizational units and senior executives on legal, administrative, and management issues.
- Provide legal advice and counsel to a range of staff, including members of the Executive Team.
- Manage outside counsel, track relevant legal developments, formulate courses of action, and draft correspondence and/or policies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Find opportunities to advance the organization in complex areas while mitigating legal risk.
- Lead efforts to keep staff abreast of and enlist their support for priority initiatives.
- Interact with funding, government, and regulatory agencies to represent the organization's interests.
- Contribute to an organizational culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Support legal, management, and risk assessment work.
- Ensure proper filing of relevant legal records.
- Supervise and coordinate all vital legal services in assigned matters, in conjunction with in-house or outside counsel.
- Supervise legal administrative staff.
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor or its International Equivalent from a recognized school of law.
- Typically requires 7+ years of experience with a law firm, corporate legal department, or organization.
- 3+ years of leadership and/or line management experience.
- Validated legal expertise in two or more relevant areas: corporate governance and transactions; tax exempt status and fundraising; contracts and commercial transactions; patent, trademark, and copyright; data privacy; and risk management.
- Licensed to practice law in one or more jurisdictions within the United States.
- Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
Nice to Have
- Industry knowledge in one or more of the organization's areas of work, such as international development or clinical research facilitation.
- Prior in-house legal department experience is strongly preferred.

You will report to the General Counsel and serve as an integral member of the legal team.
Benefits & Compensation
- Annual compensation range: USD 155,000 - 200,000.
- FHI 360 contributes 7% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account.
- 18 days of paid vacation per year for full-time staff.
- 12 sick days per year for full-time staff.
- 11 holidays per year.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position requiring US-based work.
