GEICO is hiring an Associate Counsel for a remote position based in Bronx, NY. You will defend lawsuits filed in New York courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters, representing GEICO Staff Counsel in venues within Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx.
What You'll Do
- Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
- Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations.
- Defend by trial or dispositive hearing all assigned matters.
What We're Looking For
- 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
- Juris Doctor degree required.
- Admission to the New York Bar required.
- Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and meet Continuing Legal Education requirements.
- Ability to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, meetings, and conferences.
- Ability to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner.
- Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and demonstrate strong organization and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
Nice to Have
- Civil litigation experience.
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
- Professional communication skills in person, via telephone, and in written correspondence.
