GEICO is hiring an Associate Counsel - Bronx, NY (Remote)

GEICO is hiring an Associate Counsel for a remote position based in Bronx, NY. You will defend lawsuits filed in New York courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters, representing GEICO Staff Counsel in venues within Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx.

What You'll Do

• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations.
• Defend by trial or dispositive hearing all assigned matters.

What We're Looking For

• 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Admission to the New York Bar required.
• Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and meet Continuing Legal Education requirements.
• Ability to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, meetings, and conferences.
• Ability to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner.
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and demonstrate strong organization and multi-tasking skills.
• Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.

Nice to Have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, via telephone, and in written correspondence.
