About the Role

The University of Hawaiʻi West Oʻahu is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in General Public Administration. You will join our community-focused campus in Kapolei to shape the next generation of public service leaders through teaching, scholarship, and student mentorship.

What You'll Do

  • Teach and develop undergraduate core and elective courses in areas like public administration, human resources, administrative law, research methods, and ethics.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and participate in curriculum development and program assessment.
  • Teach courses using distance education and hybrid modalities.
  • Advise students and supervise senior projects, practicum, and directed readings courses.
  • Participate in faculty governance and serve on program, division, and university committees.
  • Render service to the professional and community relevant to your academic specialty.
  • Network with professional and community organizations to develop additional practicum sites for student internships.
  • Serve as internship coordinator to build and increase internship opportunities for students.
  • Take a leadership role in promoting the Public Administration Division.

What We're Looking For

  • An earned PhD degree from an accredited university in Public Administration or a closely related discipline. ABD candidates will be considered if dissertation is completed by the date of hire.
  • A demonstrable commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching at the college or university level.
  • Evidence of, or potential to produce, scholarly and applied research.
  • Ability to plan and organize assigned activities and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience teaching undergraduate public administration or related courses at the college or university level.
  • Evidence of coordinating and organizing public administration internships.
  • Ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting; experience working with different communities and teaching students from varied backgrounds and cultures.
  • Experience with teaching distance education courses.
  • Experience with course assessment and institutional accreditation.
  • Experience with teaching writing-intensive courses.
  • Published research in peer-reviewed journals.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary classification: F-3. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Work Mode

This is an onsite position located at our campus in Kapolei, HI.
