The University of Hawaii College of Education is hiring an Assistant Professor to lead statewide workforce development initiatives in Career and Technical Education (CTE). This tenure-track role focuses on developing the CTE program, teaching, research, and service to advance Hawaii's educational goals.
What You'll Do
- Develop, refine, and coordinate the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, aligning with Hawaii Department of Education goals and national priorities.
- Collaborate with university colleagues, school-level personnel, and community leaders to enhance Statewide Workforce Development in CTE, including educator pathways.
- Develop and teach undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate CTE courses via face-to-face and distance delivery modes.
- Supervise, mentor, and coordinate teacher candidates in field-based settings and advise graduate students.
- Seek and write extramural funding to support teacher education and partnerships.
- Develop an active research and publication agenda contributing to CTE and teacher education.
- Provide service to the university, Hawaii P-12 schools, and the professional community.
What We're Looking For
- An earned Doctorate from an accredited institution in Education or equivalent; ABD candidates considered if degree is completed by the hire date.
- One or more years of full-time teaching experience in one or more of the CTE Pathways as defined by the HIDOE.
- Knowledge of current CTE Pathways as defined by the HIDOE.
- Experience using technology in teaching and distance education.
- Evidence of an active or emerging research agenda in teacher education and/or CTE Career Pathways.
- Three or more years of full-time P-12 classroom teaching experience as the teacher of record.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Nice to Have
- Two or more years of full-time industry experience in a CTE Pathway or additional full-time P-12 teaching experience.
- One or more years of full-time teaching experience in teacher education at an accredited institution of higher education.
- Experience providing professional development to educators.
- Experience working with place-based educational approaches.
- Experience collaborating with schools and/or businesses on projects.
- Demonstrated evidence of applying educational ethics in a CTE pathway.
- Experience developing community partnerships in a CTE pathway.
- Evidence of successful grant writing to support teacher education and partnerships.
- Evidence of an active or emerging research agenda in teacher education with a CTE focus.
- Demonstrated success teaching students from diverse backgrounds, including those with special needs or English language learners.
