West Virginia University was looking for an Assistant Professor

West Virginia University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Judicial Politics. The successful candidate will join a vibrant department, maintaining an active research program, teaching at multiple levels, and contributing to service within a culture of service, curiosity, respect, accountability, and appreciation.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain an active research agenda that advances the Department’s program in judicial politics.
  • Teach classes that complement the Department’s current offerings at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Develop new course offerings.
  • Advise students.
  • Teach the department's undergraduate judicial politics introductory course and advanced undergraduate courses on constitutional law and civil liberties.
  • Develop advanced undergraduate judicial politics classes in area(s) of expertise, e.g., comparative law, criminal law and policy, interdisciplinary law and society studies, trial courts, or related topics.
  • Regularly publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
  • Serve the community, university, and profession.

What We're Looking For

  • Ph.D. in Political Science or Government (must be conferred by the start date; ABD candidates considered).
  • Potential to develop an active research agenda that will secure external funding.
  • Appropriate methodological skills.
  • Evidence of and commitment to establishing an excellent record of teaching and mentorship/advising.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Team & Environment

The Department of Political Science comprises 14 full-time faculty, 36 graduate students, and about 400 undergraduates.

This is an onsite position based in Morgantown, WV.
